Trend Alert: Surprise Wedding Proposals at Sporting Events

Over the past week or so, surprise wedding proposals have been popping up at major sporting events. These types of proposals have been happening for years, but the recent surge warrants a trend alert. Each proposal was emotional in its own way; leaving fans cheering. We at A. JAFFE decided to highlight some of these epic proposals, in case you get the urge to recreate the same romantic proposal for your loved one.

1. Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburg Penguins (Dec. 14th 2013)

U.S. Marine Lance Corporal, Chris Marr, planned a video message for during the Red Wings’ Military Welcome segment. While his parents and girlfriend watched the message, Marr sneaked in behind them for a coming home surprise. To add to the excitement, Marr got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Escely Arias, leaving everyone speechless with tears of joy.

2. Army vs. Navy (Dec. 14th 2013)

Before the kick off of the 114th Army-Navy rivalry; Army offensive lineman, Colin Joy, asked his girlfriend, Nicole Veroline, for her hand in marriage. Pageantry and pomp is expected at the Army-Navy games, but nobody imagined this surprise proposal would have taken place.

3. Chicago Red Bulls vs. Miami Heat (Dec. 5th 2013)

Chicago Bulls cheerleader, Ariana Rosado, had no idea her boyfriend would be popping out of their mascot uniform to pop the question. He left the performance, with her fellow Luvabulls dancers, one of the most memorable dances ever.

4. Tennessee Titans vs. New Orleans Saints (Dec. 11th 2011)

During halftime of the Titans-Saints game on Dec. 11, 2011, Tennessee cheerleader Janae Kram got a Christmas surprise from Santa Claus. Her boyfriend dressed up as Santa, dropped to one knee, and proposed. Santa turned out to be her boyfriend, Ben Graham, a right-handed pitcher in the Washington Nationals farm system.

5. 2007 Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 1st 2007)

Boise State running back, Ian Johnson, proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend, Chrissy Popadics, after helping the Broncos defeat the Oklahoma Sooners 43-42 in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. What a win that was.

Wedding proposals in sports are becoming more and more common. There is so much excitement and energy from the game, making it the perfect time to receive a “Yes!”
