“When I design a wedding dress with a bustle, it has to be one the bride can dance in. I love the idea that something is practical and still looks great.” -Vera Wang
Congratulations on your engagement! I’m sure you are beginning to make a checklist of everything you need for your wedding? Now that you have your prince charming and a beautiful engagement ring from A. Jaffe, it’s time to find your perfect wedding dress.
Through my personal experience as a bridal sales consultant, I have interacted with many brides and I understand how overwhelming it can be to find the perfect dress. Many brides try to compromise their ideal wedding dress, while still trying to please their family and friends. Please try to avoid purchasing a dress you are not thrilled about wearing!
Today’s, modern bride has an infinite selection of styles varying from traditional lace to modern sleek. This year, designers are pushing the envelope and are providing their customers with a collection of wedding gowns from silver screen glamour to Victorian elegance. Brides can choose from various hues such as classic ivory or champagne to midnight black or ruby red. Classic silhouettes such as trumpet, A-line and mermaid continue to dominate the runway. Remember when you are deciding on your wedding dress; make sure the silhouette complements your body type. Too often, I have seen brides have their heart set on a dress and once they try on the dress, it does not flatter their shape.
Okay, enough with the chitchat, here are the top three trends that stole the spotlight during Fall 2013 New York Bridal Fashion Week.
Sweet romantic wedding dress
The sweet romantic trend is for any bride that wants to achieve a soft feminine look. Designers like Vera Wang and Jenny Lee incorporated this trend in their current fall 2013 bridal collection. To achieve this style, look for dresses with light fabrics in off-white or ivory hues. Consider silhouettes that are less figure-conscious. Other details to look for are sweetheart necklines, layers, and embellished natural waistline with beaded trim.
Sleek, minimalist wedding dress
The minimalist trend has been dominating the runways for the up and coming fall 2013 season. This trend is perfect for any bride that wants to achieve a clean and classic look. Casablanca and Amsale collection consists of subtle details such as high-low skirts and waist sashes. Many dresses are designed with clean lines and little details or no trims. This allows the bride to have more freedom when it comes to accessorizing. She has the option of adding a large statement bracelet or earrings to complete the look. Other details to look for are ruched, asymmetrical, gathering and 3D flower details.
Elegant, Victorian- Inspired Wedding Dress
I love lace!! You can’t go wrong with this trend, inspired by the Victorian look, completely covered up but still achieves sexy and elegance. This fabric has been the staple fabric for brides for centuries. The Victorian trend is for any bride that wants to break away from strapless sweetheart necklines. Designers like Monique Lhilluer, Marchesa and Amsale offer a beautiful collection of elegant lace bridal gowns. Details to look for are high-neck collars, lady like peplums, long or short sleeves, natural waistbands, ¾ sleeves, layers and ivory embroidered details and trims.
So, now that you have an idea of what styles and trends are popular on the runway this season, you are ready to find a style that is right for you. Also, choose more than one style when you are trying on bridal gowns just in case your first choice doesn’t work. And remember to have fun and enjoy this once in a lifetime occasion.
