“A woman’s dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.” – Sophia Loren
You picked out the perfect wedding gown and now it’s time to find the perfect dress for your bridesmaids to wear. If you thought picking your dress was the hardest part, think again. Try finding a dress that compliments your wedding gown and looks great on all the different body shapes of your bridesmaids. It’s not an easy task. Luckily, we at A.JAFFE have compiled a list of tips that will help make choosing the perfect bridesmaid dress stress free.
1. Remember these are your good friends:
The ladies that you have chosen to take part in your wedding ceremony are some of your closest friends. You probably know a lot about each of them, their likes and dislikes. When picking a dress for your bridesmaids to wear be considerate and be a good friend. Find a good fit that will generally look good on everyone. You don’t want any of your bridesmaids to look heavy or frumpy as they stand next to you at the altar.
2. Find the right look:
You don’t want the bridesmaids dress to out shine your own dress. It is important for you, the bride, to find the right feel for your wedding. Think of your bridesmaids as your personal accessory. You want their dresses to compliment yours not look identical or overpower you.
3. One Size Fits All – FALSE:
Every woman has their own unique shape; some tall, some short, some thin, and some with curves. That being said, not every bridesmaid will look the same in one particular dress. Certain dresses are more flattering on somebody shapes, than others. As a general rule of thumb, a-line skirts and empire waists tend to look good on all body types. If you are having a hard time finding a dress that looks great on all your bridesmaids, trying picking one of those styles.
4. It’s ok to Mix and Match:
A popular trend for bridesmaid dresses is mixing and matching. A bride will pick a general theme for the dresses, such as color and/or fabric. Then it is up to the bridesmaid to pick a dress style that they feel most comfortable in. This way everyone looks stunning and slightly unique, but still fits within the wedding theme.
5. Make sure everyone is Comfortable:
After picking a dress, ask around and make sure your bridesmaids feel comfortable wearing the dress. These are your good friends and family members. They were nice enough to be a part of your special day, so be somewhat considerate. For example, some woman might not feel comfortable wearing a strapless dress in front of a lot of people. If you have your heart set on a specific dress, think of alternative solutions for anyone that is uncomfortable, such as, wearing a shawl or having a tailor add straps to the dress.
6. Take a Vote:
If you are really having a lot of trouble picking out the perfect bridesmaid dress, take a vote. Ask your bridesmaids to come dress shopping with you. Have them try on a few dresses on and then take a vote. Tally the votes and go with the majority.
7. Be Reasonable with Cost:
Dresses can be very expensive. In most cases, each bridesmaid is responsible for buying her dress for the wedding. Be mindful when choosing a dress. Try sticking to a price range of $100-$300. If you fall in love with a more expensive dress, it is proper etiquette for the bride to cover the difference.
Picking the right bridesmaid dress is not easy. There are a lot of factors that go into the final decision. Ultimately it is the bride who should have the final say. Hopefully these tips will help make the whole process stress free. After you have chosen the perfect dress for your bridesmaids, try pairing it with one of A. JAFFE’s luxury designer accessories.
